Excessive smokers are common sufferers of Sjorgren syndrome, also referred to as Xerostomia.  The condition's main symptom is a shortage of saliva, resulting in what many refer to as cotton or dry mouth.

Certain medications are also known to cause the same condition as a side effect. The condition can also be a result of dehydration, diabetes, duct obstruction, and Lymphoma.

Xerostomia is not a disease, but rather a symptom of other problems or conditions.

Other complications associated with Xerostomia include chronic sore throat, problems swallowing, and hoarseness.

People who suspect they are suffering from this condition should seek advice from a professional to avoid further health complications such as tooth loss, gum disease, and other associated problems.
